One year after the first quarantine caused by the coronavirus pandemic, we have surpassed the mark of more than 300 thousand lives lost. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts, grandparents, children, friends, relatives who are gone. In addition to the deaths, the pandemic brought hunger, misery and violence.

As a contingency plan during the worst humanitarian crisis of recent times in Brazil, Coalizão Negra por Direitos (Black Coalition for Rights), in partnership with Anistia Internacional Global Movement, Oxfam Brasil Organization, Redes da Maré Institution, ABCD (Brazilian Action to Combat Inequalities), 342 Artes Group, Nossas - Network of Activism, Ethos Institution, Orgânico Solidário Platform and Prerrô Group, launch the humanitarian support campaign to raise funds for actions against hunger, misery and violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We need to act quickly, and for this reason we need your help. As Solano Trindade said in the poem that inspires the name of this campaign, “So many sad faces wanting to get to a destination, somewhere. If there are hungry people, give them something to eat”. Hunger cannot wait.

We have no other choice. Seeking ways to maintain the actions of our organizations in the territories affected by the pandemic, ensuring the health and life of territorial leaders and members of the black movement, increasing capacity to organize and monitor the families assisted, and, above all, seeking structural and financial conditions for assisting thousands of families in extreme poverty who live in the territories in which we operate is the only way.

For this reason, we mapped territories and families assisted by the humanitarian support actions promoted by the organizations that are part of this Coalition and partners. The previous result of this work identified 222,895 families to be supported in outskirts, slums, stilts, riverside communities and quilombos, throughout the national territory.
